Small Businesses Can Protect Themselves
Against Future Outages
Los Angeles, February 11 – Over
the past week, Southern California subscribers to Verizon
Communications (NYSE:VZ) voicemail services suffered an outage
lasting 4 days. Beginning on Wednesday, 6 February, a system error
disrupted voicemail services for 740,000 land-line customers.
Callers heard a ring and then silence; some unheard messages were
lost.
Lack of voicemail and lost
messages can have serious revenue, reputational and service quality
implications. Moreover, this is not the first time that Southern
California has been affected by a Verizon voicemail outage. In 2005,
an outage disrupted voicemail operations for 150,000 Verizon
customers.
Michael Miora, President of
ContingenZ Corporation and a thought leader in the Business
Continuity field, believes that with minimal preparation, many of
the affected businesses could have avoided loss and embarrassment.
“Planning ahead to protect your most important assets sometimes
costs very little, yet yields important continuity benefits,” says
Miora.
According to Miora, “The key to
surviving outages and other significant disruptive events is to
identify your important assets and plan how you will work without
them.” In the case of this outage, small businesses could have
forwarded calls from lines with failed voicemail to specially
monitored cell phones. Callers would not have wondered whether the
company was still in business.
In light of this outage,
ContingenZ Corporation is offering a limited time $100 discount on
