This page answers Frequently Asked Questions
about IMCD™. If you have a
question that is not answered here, please send the question to support@contingenz.com.
We will answer your question and may also post the answer here to assist
other IMCD™ users.
Q: What do you mean by real and independent copies
of information?
A: If you make a standard backup of data, then you
must first restore the backup to a PC, then use the original program
that generated the information. That means you must have a fully
restored and operational PC with the software you need running before
you can use your backup data. The IMCD data is in a form viewable within
IMCD, and using any computer, any time anywhere. You don't need to have
your original application up and running in order to view your backed up
information.
Q: You say I can get the information to those who
need it, but how can I do this easily?
A:
There are three main options. First, you can save the IMCD backup
information files (and the IMCD database itself if you want) to a flash
drive ("thumb drive"). These are available at very low cost from office
supply retailers. Then, distribute these to those who need the data so
they can keep them on their key chain for easy access during an
emergency. Second, you can select the same files and email
in advance them to those who will need them in case of emergency. Third,
you can save the data on your secure web server so anyone who needs it
can access it from any computer with internet access. There are also
other options, including handheld devices such as Blackberry, Palm Treo,
Windows Mobile, Apple iPhone, and others.
Q: How can a software program understand my
business?
A:
IMCD has a unique methodology built in that enables you, the
business owner or manager, to answer questions and provide specific data
to help IMCD build a model of your business operations emergency needs.
Q: If I uninstall
IMCD, what will happen to all the data I have entered in Part 2?
A: Uninstalling IMCD
will erase the IMCD database, which stores all the data you enter in
Part 2 of IMCD. Use the backup function in the Help section to make a
backup of your IMCD database before uninstalling IMCD. When you reinstall IMCD
on a different computer you may use the restore function in the Help
section to restore the database to the new computer.
Q: Can I install a newer version of IMCD on top
of an older version?
A: If you
are already running an IMCD Version 2.04 or earlier, then you must
not reinstall a
complete version on top of your existing version unless you take special
precautions, even if you uninstall the old version
first. NOTE: If you originally installed
IMCD v2.04 or earlier and you install a newer version
of IMCD on top of an existing installation, you risk losing your database with all of your data and having a
corrupted installation. If you must reinstall a full version, be certain
to first backup your database and your reports to a known location
outside of the IMCD 2 directory or folder structure. Then, delete the
entire IMCD 2 directory structure. By default, this directory is "C:\Program
Files\ContingenZ\IMCD 2" but is user configurable, so be certain
you delete the correct directory tree. After installation,
you will need to restore the previous database to regain your data.
Older reports may be copied back to their correct location or
regenerated using the newly installed IMCD.
If you originally installed IMCD v2.05 or later, then
this restriction does not apply to you.
Q: When I answer
the questions in the tutorial in Part 1, does IMCD store my score?
A: The questions are
to help you learn the material. They check to make sure that you
understand what is being presented. There is no scoring and results are
not stored.
Q: I already have Adobe Acrobat Reader on my
computer. Can I use the version I have?
A: Yes. You may continue to use your existing version
so long as it is at least Reader v6. Prior versions are not fully
compatible with IMCD. To download the latest version of Adobe Reader
from the Adobe Site, click
here.
Q:
The IMCD™ full report is large and comprehensive, so I want to print
to my fast network printer instead of my normal (default) printer. Can
I?
A: Yes. IMCD™ allows you to select the printer you
wish to use.
Q: Can I provide to some key personnel a subset of
the full Incident Management Plan (the full IMCD™ report)?
A: Yes. You may select to generate all the reports and
then to print them selectively. If you select only the reports you want,
they will print in the correct order, leaving out the portions that are
not necessary for a specific key person. If you are generating
PDF files, you will also be prompted to save the collection of files
into a single PDF file.
Q: When I make a change to the IMCD™ database,
how do I know which reports I need to regenerate?
A: As with any complex plan, you will learn with
experience which sections change with which data sets. Until you know
that, you may regenerate and reprint all the reports with one click. You
may also generate and print a subset of the reports by selecting them in
the printing section.
Q: I don’t have all of my information yet, but I
want to begin entering the information I have in hand. Since some of my
missing information is “required,” IMCD™ won’t let me save. Is
there a solution to this?
A: Yes. To prevent IMCD from requiring information
prior to saving the file, Use Part T, Preferences, and uncheck the Full
Check option.
Q: When I purchased IMCD™ I did not realize the
company name I provided would appear on the reports. Can I change that
name?
A: Yes. Send an email to support@contingenz.com and
explain your need for a change, providing the exact company name you
need. We will send you a new Registration Key for that company name.
Q: I am responsible for the regional office of a
large company. Can IMCD™ help me?
A: Yes. If your regional office is responsible for its
own Disaster Recovery or Incident Management Plan, then IMCD™ will
generate your plan for you. The plan it produces will also provide to
your headquarters office the proof that you have performed your planning
process well.
Q: I have requested a new registration key from
support@contingenz.com. Can I use IMCD™ while waiting?
A: Yes. You may enter data and use the program. It is
functional in every way except that your reports will show that this is
an unlicensed copy and you will be able to generate only PDF files. When you enter your registration key, your data will
remain and the program will become a fully licensed copy.
Q: I have some existing information about employees
and vendors in other databases. Can I enter that information into IMCD™?
A: Yes. There are three ways to bring existing
information into IMCD. One way is to link to a PDF file containing that
information so it prints within the plan at a place of your choosing. You may
also use the Windows “copy and paste”
capability. While entering data into a specific IMCD™ field, highlight
the appropriate information in your source database and press CTL-C
(hold down the control key while pressing the letter C) to copy the
selected text into the Windows clipboard. Then, place the cursor in the
IMCD™ field and press CTL-V to past that information into the field. If
you own a copy of Microsoft Access, you can open the IMCD database and
use the Access importing feature. For more information on importing,
please click here.
